Tap the ✦ Report button in the centre of the tab bar. You can use your GPS location, search for a place, or enter coordinates manually. Add a description, photos, and an intensity rating, then submit.
Do I need to be online to use the app?
Yes, an internet connection is required to submit sightings, view the feed, and browse the map. Offline mode is planned for a future update.
How do I edit or delete a sighting?
Go to the Feed tab, filter by "My posts", and tap the Edit button on any of your sightings. From there you can update the description, add photos, or delete the sighting.
Can I add photos after submitting?
Yes. Edit your sighting from the Feed tab and use the photo upload option. You can add up to 5 photos per sighting.
How does the location search work?
Start typing a place name and suggestions will appear from Google Places. You can also type any name you like and use it directly — just make sure to add coordinates via GPS or manually so your sighting appears on the map.
What does the intensity rating mean?
Intensity is a 1–5 scale describing how bright and visible the bioluminescence was. 1 is a faint shimmer, 5 is unmissable glowing waves.
How do I change my username or password?
Go to the Profile tab and tap "Change username" or "Change password".
How do I delete my account?
Visit our account deletion page and submit a request with the email address you signed up with. We'll process it within 7 days.
Is my data shared with anyone?
Your sighting reports (location, description, photos, username) are visible to all app users — that's the core purpose of the app. Your email address is never shared. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Make sure you've granted location permissions to the app in your phone's settings. On iOS: Settings → bioloom. → Location. On Android: Settings → Apps → bioloom. → Permissions → Location.
Check that you've granted photo library and camera permissions. Also ensure you have a stable internet connection — large photos may take a moment on slower connections.
The map requires Google Play Services. Make sure your device has Google Play Services installed and updated.
If you've forgotten your password, log out and use the sign-up screen to request a password reset. If you're still having trouble, contact us via email.
